About SAM and GSE

What is GSE?
GUIDE SHARE Europe (GSE) is a non-profit association of companies, organisations
and individuals who are involved in Information and Communication Technology
(ICT) solutions based on IBM architectures. Most GSE members use large
IBM centralised enterprise servers, and as such, represent the largest
IT organisations in Europe.
What is SAM?
Software Asset Management (SAM) is a set of methodologies, policies, technologies,
and people dedicated to the active management of software inventory, usage
monitoring, software license management, and the tracking of contractual
and financial attributes of software across the entire enterprise.
Ultimately, the purpose of SAM is to manage the expensive software assets.
With good management practices, the costs associated with software can
be reduced to justifiable and manageable levels.
What is SAM in GSE?
As a result of strategic surveys among GSE members, GSE decided to create
a special SAM project with the responsibility of providing information
on Software Asset Management to GSE member organisations. The project,
called SAM in GSE, will manage SAM specific tracks at selected GSE conferences,
and cooperate with the SHARE organisation and its parallel SAM in SHARE
project. Through this cooperation, installation needs could be coordinated
and presented to suppliers in a more coherent and influential way, to the
benefit of our installation members.
